Lego Bedroom for My Big Boy

As I mentioned in my previous post, my 7 yr old had outgrown his “Transportation Theme” bedroom and had to give up his entire bedroom furniture and accessories to his younger brother.  The theme we came up with is Lego since he’s obsessed with it and something that he can grow with (seriously, even adults still enjoy Lego).  I also don’t want it to be too commercial.  I don’t want to get stuck with Ninjago theme (something he really enjoys these days) if later on he is going to like the Lego Movie.  The problem with Lego theme bedroom that I had in mind is you have to either make it yourself or buy handmade.  Knowing myself of course I chose the later, although I tried to talk him out of choosing this Lego theme. :)

This is what his bedroom looked like prior to the transformation:

The headboard is from the crib and we bought a new mattress and new full size bed frame to go with it.  We bought an entire new set of bedroom furniture for the master bedroom (of course details will be in the upcoming post), so we handed down each nightstand for the boys.  Then for the bedding, I chose a solid red color for his comforter and blue sheet to mimic Lego colors.  I thought the comforter is somewhat buckeye-ish in case he wants to go with OSU theme in his tween years.  Everything else, I bought them from Etsy.com.

This is pretty much the only DIY thing my son and I did for the room, thanks to Pinterest and Dallas Moms Blog .  I bought 3 canvas from an art store and painted them using paint samples from a hardware store ($2.99/each).  Then I cut out circles from a cardboard using a plastic bowl from Chinese take out as a template, and painted it.  It was a fun project that my son and I did together.

Final result:

I think the room looks great and my big boy is super happy!  It’s not overloaded with Lego stuffs everywhere, but enough to make a Lego statement.  Nothing stays permanent, so it’s easy to transform the room into a different theme if he choose to do so later on.  I couldn’t be happier!

Stay tuned to check out some more room transformation!

Hi Marla, I really like what you’re doing here. The design is clear, yet it will mold and mature as your son does. How is he liking it now? Is it old news now that it’s been a good chunk of time or is he still really excited about it?
