Good bye Nursery and Helloooo Big Boy’s room!!! We finally got rid of the nursery by moving my oldest son’s bedding and room accessories into my youngest’. Over the past few months, started in July to be exact, I was so busy with so many house projects; renovating the boys’ rooms, playroom, and the master bedroom. It all started by selling the glider through Craigslist, which I’m pretty happy that we got $75 out of it. Then we took apart the crib and used the headboard for my oldest son’s new bed. The crib had been recalled and cannot be sold. So rather than buying an entire new bedroom furniture for my oldest, I decided to transform the crib into a full size bed as we originally planned when we purchased it years ago. My 7 yr old had outgrown his car bed and it’s time to hand it down to his little brother :). His original room when we first moved him out of the nursery can be found here . Then we put the glider and the puzzle shelves back into the nursery when his brother was born. Then later on we bought a car bed for him. Since he gave up his “Transportation Room” to his brother, he also got a new room, which will be covered on the next post.
This is what my oldest’ room looked like prior to the transition.
Back to the nursery, this is the before picture.
Then, I started with a fresh coat of paint in neutral blue. It was a bitter sweet painting over that ginormous Winnie the Pooh that has been on the wall since we bought this house. The nursery’s blind had been broken for a very long time and I was debating whether I should use blind or curtain. I’m actually more of a curtain person, but since my toddler is such an early bird, I thought it would be a good idea to use both blind and curtain to block the sunlight completely. Or so I thought!!! After trying it and didn’t have any impact on his sleeping habit, I decided to use the blinds and window valances. The table set that match with the bedding doesn’t fit in my youngest’ room, so I moved it downstairs in the playroom. The playroom transformation also will be covered on the next posts.
This is the after picture.
Some “hands me down” room accessories from my oldest…
- construction vehicle pictures
- firetruck lamp
- transportation bedding
- transportation frame & firetruck hook
And some new items…I found this wall sticker “traffic light” lamp from Zulily and completely obsessed with it. I also bought new “Construction” valances from Target at 50% off, which matches with the picture frames above the bed.
Overall, I’m completely happy with it. It was a long process and tons of trips to the hardware store and Bed Bath and Beyond, but it’s definitely worth it!
