I started blogging in 2006 through friendster, a “then” popular social media which its existence has long gone these days. I blogged for about 1 1/2 year until my son was born. I was so busy with our little one and decided to put my blogging in hiatus. About a year later, my hubby and a friend told me that I should continue blogging again. However this time, I decided to share my experience as a first time parent and that’s how mommylicious was born.
Looking back I am really grateful of what I have accomplished so far just by doing it part time. It has grown from a blog that’s no one read it other than my hubby into a blog that’s on google’s first page for “parenting blog”. I used to envy other blogger who’s constantly getting freebies or even make money out of it. I still don’t consider my blog as a money maker, but I do enjoy some freebies. My writing has evolved too. I don’t write a lot of personal stories anymore because I figured people who’s interested in it are the ones who know me personally.
Some blogging tips I would like to share to the newbies since blogosphere is a very supporting community:
Write about tips and how to
Not only search engine loves it, people are more interested in reading problem solving materials instead of what your kid do to your hair. If you do want to write that, throw some lesson to learn in the mix.
Learn about blog-ethic
There are tons of blogs out there and you are allowed to get some inspiration from them, but keep it original. Don’t copycat their work. If you decide to write the same topic, give them a credit by linking back to them. The other blogger would appreciate it and might linking back to you, and guess what? It increases your link popularity.
Don’t mock other blogger
There was one time I wrote a story about my relationship with hubby. Next day, I visited a so-called fellow blogger who happened to be in my google friend. Sure enough I found out she mocked and criticized my story. I did drop a comment letting her know I read the posts and I knew she was talking about me. Just be ethical. That blog is no longer active now.
Visit other blogs and leave comments
If you want your blog to work for you, you have to treat it like a business. Just like in business, you have to network. Network with other blogger and you’ll be surprised how much inspiration you can get from them.
Write from your heart
When you are writing from your heart, people will follow you. My pure intention of my blog is still the same, sharing my experience to others.
I’m still far from reaching my goal and my ranking is nowhere near those popular blogs out there, but I’m getting there and I will be there. Just one step at a time….
