Garage Sale Treasure Hunt

May 18th, 2010

Over the next few days I probably will post quite often about our new family outing, which is hunting for treasures at community garage sale.  This has become our family activity that we started last year.   We live in North side of Columbus, so we only went to community garage sale around Lewis Center, Westerville, Polaris, and Powell.  I think our biggest finding last year was a Women’s Schwinn bike that we got for only $30 and a two-seater four wheeler for my son ($35).  The rest were just small toys that I wouldn’t consider a “treasure”.  Our first garage sale hunt was about two weeks ago.  It was cold, rainy and windy, just an awful time to have a garage sale.  In fact a lot of them actually got cancelled.  Our biggest findings that weekend was sets of boys room decor to complete my son’s bedroom (a complete post will follow once the bedroom is 100% complete), and a step 2 sand table for only $5.  The only problem with this sand table is the umbrella and lid are missing.  But hey… its’ $5 so who cares?

We found the blue bucket and yellow shovel at $0.50 both, the blue and yellow fishing poles along with a couple fish (not shown) for $1.00.  The Mill and small boat are from Target at $5 total.  So overall I’m pretty happy with our findings.  I’m hoping we could find a really cheap but decent condition playhouse or a bounce house, though we may not have enough space for those two.

I totally scored at a community garage sale last week. So many sweeeeeeeet deals, especially if for someone just starting out with babies and toddlers.

My sister and I found great items at 90% off of what we would pay retail…and in pretty good shape! It’s a fun way to spend a Saturday moring and save $$$.

I totally agree with you. I actually got a V-tech video game that you connect to tv, retail $44.95 at toys ‘r us and I got it for $7 with 5 games. I’m going to keep it for the Winter while we’re hybernating… :)
