Walt Disney approached me to write a review about Handy Manny new release DVD, which will be available in stores by April 20, 2010.  For those of you who are not familiar, Handy Manny is a Spanish handyman who likes to help his friends by fixing and building stuffs using his tools friends.  I have watched Handy Manny in the past and I think the show is very educational.  My son is not familiar with the character as I don’t let him watch any other channel but Noggin.  Noggin is the only kids channel that is free of commercial.  I really don’t want to expose my three year old to any type of commercial because I just think it’s unhealthy.

In this movie “Big Race”, Handy Manny teams up with his friend Elliot to build a fabulous race car to enter into the Wood Valley 500 race.  However, with the pressure of the race approaching, Elliot decides he’s not quite ready to race and bows out.  It’s up to Manny to put his driving skills to the test in an attempt to win the race. 

Handy Manny is suitable for kids age 2 - 5.  The movie teaches a multicultural and multi-generational community, who likes to help each other by working together to solve problems.  It also teaches some Spanish words and phrases as well as some Latin cultures in the community.  My son enjoyed watching it and even picked up a few Spanish words afterwards.  The movie runs about 48 minutes, which is perfect for a three year old.  In the end, he just found a new favorite character.
