Thanks to my co-worker, I just found my new favorite Chinese restaurant of all time. Lotus Grill is located next to Imax Theatre in Worthington, in the strip mall between Chipotle and Jed’s Barbecue. I’ve been to Lotus Grill many times before only to buy a quick Chinese take out. General Tso’s chicken, Hongkong fried rice, Empress Chicken, are the typical menus my husband and I ordered in the past. They are pretty generous for the price you pay, but taste-wise was pretty much like any other Chinese take out places. Then my Chinese friend, who thinks my taste of Chinese food has become Americanized, told me I should order the ones from the Chinese menu. The Chinese menu is obviously in Chinese characters, and my friend had to translate it for me. Turns out the food from the Chinese menu is too die for!!! Prices are around $8 - $10, but they give you plenty of meats. The owners are from Szechuan, which is a part of China that’s famous for its spicy food. One time we ordered Ma Po Tofu and we asked them to scoop out a portion of it for my son (since he doesn’t eat spicy food) before putting in the hot peppers. The owner was more than happy to do it for us. These are the meals I highly recommend:
- Beef Stew - Sweet and tender beef cooked with Chinese Bok Choy
- Ma Po Tofu - I like the Ma Po Tofu although I think the one from Happy Dragon (in German Village) is better
- Meatball soup - ground pork meatballs with rice noddle and napa cabbage. Very delicious! One bowl is more than enough for at least 3 - 4 people
- Salt and Pepper Shrimp - Be sure to ask no shell as most Chinese people like to eat it with shell
- Shrimp with scrambled egg - There is nothing ordinary about this meal other than they give a generous amount of shrimp. However kids love this so much
I highly recommend Lotus Grill to anyone. Even if you don’t order from the Chinese menu, it’s still worth to try.
- meatball soup
- beef stew
