I had the opportunity to try out Kindermusik class in Powell, OH (a suburb of Columbus, OH) by Ms. Florence last Saturday. In the beginning, of course being as shy as he always is, my son was hugging my feet almost the entire time. Towards the end he got a little more comfortable and even participated in the activities.
Kindermusik is basically a learning activity for children, newborn to age 7, using a combination of physical (motor skills), social, musical, emotional, and language. I love the fact that Ms. Florence has lots of props and really use the 45-minute session to do lots of different activities. The following was what we did that day:
Physical and Musical Skills
In the beginning of the session, we sang and danced with and without props. The prop that we used at the time was a ring with a string of ribbons. Prior to the dance, the children were asked to point out the colors of the ribbons.
Musical
Using Castanets and Triangles, the children learned short and long noise.
Physical (Motor skills) and Social
Ms. Florence took out two scrappers, one that made sounds like a frog, and the other one that moves like a caterpillar. The children also learned to share by taking turns with these instruments.
Physical
The children stood on an upside down bowl to practice their balance, then jump off the bowl. My son had a blast in this particular activity.
Language
Ms. Florence constantly used a simple sign language during the session such as in colors, thank you, etc. The session was ended with a story time, and the children received a stamp on their hands afterwards.
Ms. Florence is super nice and treats the parents more like a friend instead of customer. Based on the try out class my son had, I highly recommend Kindermusik for any toddlers. For more information about Kindermusik in Powell and Columbus, OH, please visit http://www.thejoyfulnoisestudio.com.
