Lottie Da Baby Boutique

September 21st, 2009

Lottie Da Baby is the perfect example of what all local businesses should do.  As a former business owner and someone who currently work in a big box retail industry, I do understand the struggle local business owners have to go through in order to compete with the big boxes.  First of all, you cannot compete with the prices.  Why?  Clearly because all products that are sold in the big boxes are being mass produced in China, meaning they get a better deal in pricing due to the higher volume.  So if you’re a small business owner, a mom and pop, or local business owner, however you want to call yourself, what can you do to compete with the big guys?  Be Different.  Choose products that nobody can find it anywhere else but your store, and Lottie Da Baby Boutique did just that!

Located in Clintonville, Lottie Da Baby Boutique offers a variety of unique baby products from nursery bedding, feeding set, baby and children clothing, toys and many more.  Most of their products are handmade.  In fact, I could see a sewing machine that’s sitting right behind the register.  The owner was super friendly and she pretty much let me browse around the store without hussling me on buying anything.  Although the price is higher than typical big box stores, but it’s still reasonable.  My 2.5 year old son is either too old for the toys or too big for the clothing.  However, I ended up buying this cute little wash mitten.
