Cake Design by Divine Wedding

August 25th, 2009

I always admire any working moms who have the ability to manage their precious time and have an extra source of income doing things they love.  A dear friend of mine, a mom of two and full time programmer, is also a cake decorator, an event planner and an occasional wedding photographer (a business owned by her husband, a wedding and fashion photographer, Restu Kresnadi Photography).  A few weeks ago we both were invited to a baby shower where she presented her creation, a beautiful baby shower cake.  I was blown away by her attention to every little detail, down to the babies’ little fingers, wrinkles, tiny babies bibs, etc.  I’m not a big fan of fondant because I think it’s too sweet and yucky.  I don’t know what she did but that cake was not too sweet at all; it was actually delicious.

With that said, I thought it would be fun to create a little questionnaires for her.  She is someone who’s so good in everything plus more.  She is artistic, has brain and an outgoing personality.  After all, she is someone I look up to and I’m pretty sure many of us wished we could be like her.

Mommylicious:  How do you manage your time between career, parenting, event planning, designing birthday and wedding cake, and still have some time left for exercise and have fun?

Divine Wedding: I wish there is more than 24 hours in a day.  But with a good time management and planning, it is possible for me to distribute my time between career, parenting, Divine Wedding, and personal time.  I have an organizer for me to keep track with my busy schedule and the most important thing is a lot of helps and supports from my family and friends.

Mommylicious:  What kind of support do you get from home?

Divine Wedding:  My husband and I are a great team and he supports my business.  He cooks, helps with our household chores, and makes sure our kids are taken care of when I have to see clients in the evening or weekend.  In addition, he always gives me an inspiration for my next cake to make it unique.

Mommylicious:  Is there any tips you can give other moms who have a dream of opening a business?

Divine Wedding:  Think creative.  Think magical.  It is actually Divine Wedding’s slogan.  Come out with your own distinctive idea and do something that you enjoy to do.  Opening a business is not an easy job.  There is a possibility that you will fail but failure is only failure when you do not learn from it and apply what you have learned.
