This Weekend in Columbus: Columbus Museum of Art

May 19th, 2009

My typical Friday afternoon involves finding out what we are going to do in the weekend.  I normally check out local newspaper to see if there are any festivals or free kids/family events around town.  I found out that Columbus Museum of Art is having Family day on every certain Sunday of the month (you have to visit the website to check the date as it varies each month).  It’s free admission and free parking, couldn’t get any better.

So that was what we did last Sunday.  We actually had a good time.  The place was packed but not overwhelming.  There were several musical performance, family art project, and an exhibition.  The current exhibition is the Egyptian Treasurer featuring mummy, sarcophagus, egyptian artwork, jewelry among other things.  In addition to those, you can also take pictures wearing egyptian costumes.

I have to be honest, my son is a bit too young to enjoy everything.  He was more interested in running around the gallery or picking out some flowers out in the patio.  I think the whole event is more suitable for 3 year old and older.  However, I read from a source that children who are explored to different things at an early ages tend to have higher IQ, and I totally believe that.  Yes it might be a hassle trying to do different things, or your child might show zero interest, or you will never know whether they will throw temper tantrum or not, but it’s worth a shot.  Someday they will be excited to visit those places and it’s never too early to start.

    Hey Vimala,

Speaking of free events, I brought the girls to the Asian Festival at Franklin Park today. Hope you were able to make it too or there’s also tomorrow. It’s worth going and it is a fairly family-friendly event.

Thanks for the tip on the CMA.

    Hi Grace,

We normally go to Asian Festival every year, but we had to skip that this year since we were out of town. But I have to agree with you, Asian Festival is so much fun. You got to try different food and watch the entertainment for free.
