Last year my friend told me she took her kids to see Thomas and they had a fabulous time. Since then I was looking forward to this event especially as my son showed more and more interest in Thomas. Thomas travels around the country and finally I found out he would be coming to Ohio on Memorial day weekend. So I told my husband to plan for our trip.
The event this month took place in Cuyahoga Valley, which is not far from Cleveland. It’s pretty much an old train that the people who invented this event turn the locomotive into Thomas. The kids can enjoy the train ride led by Thomas and get their pictures taken with Sir Topham Hatt. The train ticket is $18/person and kids under 2 years old can ride for free. The ride is about 20 minutes back and forth. There are a lot of entertainment around the area such as Lego in the shape of Thomas, train tables and set, inflatable bouncy house, temporary tattoo station, magic show, story teller, and many more. Other than the train ticket, you can enjoy all the activities for free. There is also a tent full of Thomas merchandise for sale.
We decided that our two year old son is too young to enjoy the train ride. We know he’d be more interested in seeing Thomas. Therefore instead of spending $54 for the train tickets, we decided to just meet and take pictures with Thomas. My son was very happy to see Thomas and kept saying “Nomas… see Nomas”. He loved watching the train set and playing with the choo choo train.
Overall I think the event was well organized although I do think the ticket is a little bit pricey. For $18 I expect them to at least decorate the entire train. Another thing I dislike about the event, well at least the one in Ohio, is that the location is very gravely and making it so hard to push the stroller or walk with a high heel shoes.
The point of my post is that you can have a good time and not spending any money. As long as you know what your child enjoy the most and be strick about it, bring your own food and beverages, and close your eyes when passing the shop, you just score!! When my son turns 3 and if he really likes Thomas, maybe we’ll buy the tickets and that’s the most I’m willing to spend. For now, I know my son had a fabulous time and we didn’t even spend a penny!!
