Jon & Kate plus Eight

March 20th, 2009

I recently got hooked on Jon and Kate plus Eight reality tv series on TLC.  It all started from working out at my office every morning at 10:30, which of course I have to have the tv on while running on the treadmill.  Anyway, although Kate’s germ-o-phobic really got into my last nerve, there are so many things that I admire from her.

  1. Her organization skills.  Considering the number of kids running around the house at all times, I must say that she is one heck of a neaty person.  Of course you can’t have a six three-year-old in the house for a whole day and not having a playroom that looks like a train wreck.  That would be impossible.  But at least she has a place for everything.
  2. Her creativity in keeping her kids busy without giving lots of toys inspired me.  I don’t think she has gazzillion toys for her kids to play, and yet everyday her kids would do different kind of arts and crafts.  My favorites are edible playdoh (made of peanut butter and some other things), and a drawing about what the kids did the day Kate was gone out of town for promoting the book.  Unfortunately, most of the activities are not quite applicable for a two year old, but it’s worth to keep in mind for future reference….
  3. She managed to cook a healthy organic meal everyday.  Staying at home in my opinion is a much harder job than work outside home full time, let alone with eight kids.  Yet she managed to cook healthy organic meal everyday while I’m having a hard time finding time to cook everyday.
  4. An extremely patience woman.  Sure she has some moments and breakdown here and there, but hey, who wouldn’t?  She was able to educate her kids without yelling and smacking.  One of the best quote I got from her and Jon is, the best education you can give your kids is Love.  Simple but true.

My husband made fun of me because he thinks I watch too much reality tv.  The truth is, some reality tv are just plain dumb, but this one I think can be a true inspiration.  Although most of us don’t have two sets of multiples, but I think we all can relate to her life.
