Don’t leave your purse in the car!

February 28th, 2009

After going through a huge turmoil in 2008 I was really looking forward to a better luck in 2009. Needless to say, January 12 turns out to be the worst day of my life.

Things were going normal at work, nothing was extraordinary. I was driving home thinking what I need to do that night. Then I called my husband asking if he’s on the way home also. He said he was stuck at work and told me to pick up our son at daycare. So I thought, ok that’s not a problem.

When I arrive at the daycare center, I hurrily got out, locked my car and ran to pick up my son. I was always in a hurry when picking up my son. I guess I just couldn’t wait to see him. My son was playing, I talked a little bit to his teacher. Of course I had to chase him around to put on his coat. When we finally got out and walked into my car, my heart dropped down to my stomach. My car window had been smashed into pieces and my handbag was stollen!!! Immediately I went back to the daycare, told the director of what happened. I called my husband and told him what had just happened. Then called the police to make a police report.

This whole thing wouldn’t have happened had I take my purse with me. Yes I admit it, it was my fault! I should’ve been more careful. I should’ve thought in this horrible economy, crime rate has increased, and it doesn’t matter whether you live in the safest neighborhood, things like this could happen to you.

What makes things worse is the fact that my husband my switched our insurance to a higher deductable. Therefore, I couldn’t claim any of my loss. I probably lost about $1500.00 ranging from losing my designer wallet, blackberry, digital camera, a total of $500 worth of gift cards, and Ipod, and a bunch of coupons. What can I say…. could’ve would’ve should’ve…

My husband was furious, and I couldn’t blame him. I was furious myself for my stupidity. I just wished that whoever did this to me will be burning in hell, or he had to do it in order to feed his family. Either way, this is not a good sign for a good fortune this year.

With that said, I would like to remind all mommies out there to not leave any valuable belonging in the car. I just watched the news last night and there are about 15 break-ins/ week in Ohio, mainly targeting daycare center. Things are getting worse because of the economy. It doesn’t matter how many diapers you have to bring in for the daycare, or how late you are in picking up your son, make sure you lock your car and bring all valuable belongings with you.
